One Hundred Finnish Soundscapes
A competition for collecting soundscapes 15.9.2004 - 30.6.2005
The crunch of the frosty snow, the creaking of cottage cheese while chewing, the whirr of the marine engine, the growl of motorcycles, the hum of the city, the gurgle of the chest drain bottle after a bypass surgery, the cry of seagulls at the market square…
One Hundred Finnish Soundscapes in a nationwide competition open for all participants. The time span of the competition is from September 15, 2004 to June 30, 2005. The competition is about collecting descriptions and observations about soundscapes within Finnish geographical borders. The aim is to gather up soundscapes of the entrants by using their regional knowledge of the versatile Finnish soundscapes both in cities and rural regions.
Write about the soundscape that is important to you; where it can be found, why it is important or why it has attracted your attention. You can write the description with a style of your choosing. There can be personal or social aspects in the significance of the soundscape. The written answer can pursue to preserve the soundscape in question or it can be based on purely subjective experience. You can write about a single sound with its surroundings or about a single place with its soundscape.
After receiving the answers a part of them will be recorded, listed to the archives and finally compiled to a recording. The already recorded sounds can be listened to and commented on the following web pages: www.100aanimaisemaa.fi.
